Joan Manuel Serrat was born in Barcelona on the 27th december of 1943. He is considered one of the most important figures modern, popular musicin both the Spanish and Catalan languages. He became involved with music at the age of 17. He was a working family member. His father, was a member of Spanish anarchist CNT and his mother, a housewife. His childhood and ambience of the street mark him deeply, so much so that many of their songs narrate the daily life of Catalonia after the Civil War.
